TQ3203NW CLARENDON PLACE 577-1/48/155 (North side) No.8 Clarendon Lodge and attached walls and piers


House. Early to mid C19. Stucco. Roof of slate. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys over half basement. Main elevation of 5-window range; elevation to Clarendon Place of 2-window range. Flat-arched entrance with overlight in second-window range of main elevation, framed by Tuscan pilasters and entablature with cornice supported by console brackets. To either side of entrance is a single-storey canted bay with flat-arched tripartite windows; at the corners of the bay and at the joins with the wall are Tuscan pilasters; each bay has an entablature with a frieze of 3 rosettes to each facet. Ground-floor windows in the 4th- and 5th-ranges have floating cornices, each on a pair of console brackets; the lintels of these windows are decorated with rosettes; projecting sills supported by a pair of corbels. Balcony over entrance now gone; the first-floor windows have sills and corbels similar to those on the ground floor; the window lintels intersect a continuous cornice. First-floor windows have 3 x 3 sashes of original design and cast-iron flower guards. Brackets to eaves except over windows, where the cornice area is decorated with square panels. Windows on the Clarendon Place elevation are similar to those on the main elevation, except for those near the corner which are blocked. INTERIOR: not inspected. Walls and end piers to entrance stairs; low walls and piers along Clarendon Place.
