TL 2118 CODICOTE BURY LANE (east side)

House, now sheltered housing for old people. Soon afer 1659. Red brick. Built double pile. Machine tile hipped roofs behind C18 parapet. Sauare plan. 3 storeys over basement. Floor bands. Aluminium sash windows, 3 on each elevation. SW front has arched brick panels in the lower storeys and a 2-storeyed pilastered centre piece with Doric and Ionic orders on pedestals. Niches in outer bays. Top entablature with pediment and ball finials. Late C18 doorcase with pulvinated frieze and dentilled cornice. The roof shows 2 tall red brick chimney stacks with grouped square shafts. Lobby entrances to ground floor centre bays on NW and SE sides. Extremely good interior: large open-well staircase with tapering fluted balusters. Pendant newels have fretwork arch heads between them. Similar arch to front lobby. Original oak doors to 1st and 2nd floors with ovolo-moulded rails and muntins. Ground floor rooms with replacement panelling and exposed ceiling beams. Larqe c1978 rear extensions.
