SJ3089 PARK ROAD NORTH 789-1/7/118 (South side) 28/03/74 Norman Lodge West (Formerly Listed as: BIRKENHEAD PARK Entrance gateway consisting of Norman Lodge E. Norman Lodge W. Five gatepiers.)

GV II

Lodge to Birkenhead Park. c1843-1847. By Lewis Hornblower and John Robertson for Sir Joseph Paxton. Ashlar-faced with Welsh slate roof. Single storeyed with 2 storey central block. 3 bays, symmetrical about both axes. Recessed entrance with fluted Doric shafts and plain entablature in central block, with single-storey bays advanced on each side, the windows renewed in original openings with shouldered architraves. Side wall stacks on central range. The lodge is one of a pair with Norman Lodge East (q.v.) and forms part of the original development of Birkenhead Park. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N and Hubbard E: Cheshire: Harmondsworth: 1971-).
